The air distance from Kochi, Kerala to Agatti Island, Lakshadweep is only about 300 km. And, it takes between 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours for the flight journey.

Do’s & Don’ts:

After you reach Lakshadweep, make sure that you follow all the necessary rules and abide by it strictly:

DO’s

  1. Make sure that you have applied for the permit 15 days before planning your trip to Lakshadweep. Or, you can ask your tour operator who can instantly arrange a permit within 2-3 days for tourists to visit.
  2. Within 24 hours after you have reached on any of the islands, make sure to report with the permit to the nearest Registration Officer (Station House Officer) who shall enter the date and time of arrival of the holder on the permit.
  3. Remember that only a few tourists are allowed to enter Lakshadweep at a time. So, make sure that you book your trip in advance.
  4. It is advised that you carry all the necessary items as per your requirements as you won’t find many shops there.
  5. Throughout the journey, tourists will be assisted by a representative of SPORTS (Society for Promotion of Nature Tourism and Sports). It is always better to ask for his help in tourism-related queries.
  6. Foreign Tourists are only issued with entry permit rules after approval by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

DONT’s

  1. Don’t touch the corals. Picking corals from the island is a punishable act as it affects the ecosystem.
  2. Carrying prohibited drugs and narcotics into Lakshadweep is a punishable offense.
  3. Do not go out of your island lagoon without permission of the SPORTS authorities and without a proper escort. It can be risky.
  4. Alcohol is not allowed in Lakshadweep. There is the prohibition of alcohol on all islands except for Bangaram island.
  5. Swimming or Sunbathing nude is not allowed.
  6. Do not pluck coconuts from the trees. They are privately owned and plucking coconuts without permission is a punishable offense.
  7. Don’t throw garbages here and there. Make the use of dustbins.
